As a skillful tradesperson with keen decision-making skills and an entrepreneurial spirit, Lee Verner knows that Peterborough & the Kawarthas is a great place to be running his business. He notes that the area is experiencing great growth and with several plans for subdivision developments in the area this is a great opportunity for his business.
Verner Construction is a residential and commercial carpentry construction company. They focus on framing and other carpentry construction aspects of subdivision, as well as custom residential and commercial build projects.
Through the B.L.A.S.T. Pilot Program Lee gained the knowledge he needed to succeed as a business owner. He sharpened his business savvy and learned what it takes to start his business off right. He also learned of the different financial and community resources that are available in Peterborough’s supportive business community. With the microgrant, Lee will expand his tool supply and certifications in order to grow his business capabilities.
Lee recommends programs like B.L.A.S.T. for other entrepreneurs that are starting out and found the support helpful in building a successful business plan. He feels confident moving forward and aims to have two fully operational crews within five years.
We asked Lee how he defines success. He answered: “Success is really any step you take towards bettering your life and never giving up on the goals and dreams you have for yourself.”
