Our sincere congratulations to Rachel Pearson, successful Peterborough Starter Company candidate and grant recipient!
Rachel is the owner and primary instructor of Pearson First Aid Plus. Pearson First Aid Plus is a Lifesaving Society Affiliate, as well as a Canadian Red Cross Training Partner, and delivers First Aid and CPR/AED training. First Aid training delivered through Pearson First Aid Plus can be tailored to each client’s schedule and workplace location. In addition, the company provides aquatic leadership courses such as the National Lifeguard and Bronze Medallion/Cross, as well as aquatic fitness and swimming lessons for all ages.
Rachel has been a First Aid and National Lifeguard instructor for the past 4 years. Over the past 10 years, she has taught all levels of swimming lessons and has been a lifeguard herself, including a Head Waterfront Lifeguard for the Toronto Police Lifeguard Service. In addition, Rachel is an Ontario Certified Teacher and is also trained in Advanced Wilderness First Aid, ORCA Canoe Tripping Level I, OSSLT Scribe Training, and Five Counties Special Needs Training. She brings a contagious enthusiasm, high level creativity and dedication to every training program she provides.
How the Starter Company program helped:
Starter Company has been a great support resource for Rachel as she stepped out to start her own business, providing her with the framework and tools to create a business plan. She is very grateful that the program has given her the confidence to move forward and mentorship to support future growth. The grant that Rachel received through the program has provided her with the means to acquire top-of-the-line equipment, such as CPR manikins, to support training delivery.
Rachel’s goal is to expand her client base by continuously upgrading and providing leading edge First Aid and Aquatic Leadership instruction. For example, she anticipates being able to offer Airway Management training in the near future. Rachel’s passion for her business is driven by her belief and understanding that First Aid is an important skill that equips people to deal with emergencies in the workplace or at home. Learning how to swim is a life skill that provides knowledge about water safety and accident prevention, and is a great way to stay active. Through courses delivered by Pearson First Aid Plus, Rachel endeavors to help clients build confidence in these areas so that they can keep themselves and those around them healthy and safe.
