The Mane Intent offers individual coaching and group sessions using facilitated equine experiential learning (also known as FEEL). Their programming includes mental health and wellness workshops, individual and team effectiveness coaching and leadership development. As a successful communications and management consultant with many years in the corporate world as a business owner, Jennifer Garland opened The Mane Intent as a business that is complementary to her existing work, creating horse-focused opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Through the B.L.A.S.T. Pilot Program, Jennifer has been able to put some discipline and formality around her business with the creation of her business plan and supporting financials. Jennifer found the help she received from Peterborough Economic Development’s Business Advisory Centre staff to be encouraging and supportive as she moved through the process. The microgrant will allow her to complete a certificate in Trauma Counselling for Front-line workers. She will roll the rest of the funding into additional program development. Jennifer now feels she is well-positioned to grow with a solid business plan, a marketing strategy and a more structured approach to sales to drive growth in her business.
Jennifer encourages other entrepreneurs to stay focused on their goal, while allowing things to unfold naturally. She states that is is a fine balance between planning and going with the flow and advisesother entrepreneurs to manage their expectations, work within their networks and give customers the best possible experience.
We asked Jennifer, what makes Peterborough & the Kawarthas a great place to be an entrepreneur? She answered: “This is a beautiful place to live and work with a great network of entrepreneurs and small businesses able to support your business close to home.”
