Melinda Masters’ business expansion is customer-driven. Over and over she has been asked by brides to create themed wedding outfits because they are unable to find what they are looking for in stores. This expanded business, Dream Theme Wedding, will allow Melinda to provide brides with a convenient, one-stop online shop to purchase everything that they need to create their own unique, themed wedding at competitive prices.
Through the B.L.A.S.T. Pilot Program, Melinda has been supported through the guidance of PED’s Business Advisory Centre staff as she researched and put together a business plan. With the microgrant, Melinda plans to hire a digitally-savvy person in order to professionally present her products online and take advantage of the opportunities online retail present to her business.
In an online world, Melinda could be working from anywhere. Why does she choose Peterborough & the Kawarthas as a place to live and work? It comes down to the entrepreneurial spirit of the area, a supportive business community and a public that is passionate about the local entrepreneurial movement.
As she continues to grow, Melinda is looking forward to helping brides expressing their individuality on their big day. How will she gauge her success? On client referrals. When this happens on a continual basis that’s how she knows that she has been successful in her business plans.
We asked Melinda, what advice would you offer other aspiring entrpreneurs. She answered: “If you believe in something, work hard, never give up and walk through every door that opens for you.”
