For Grace Graham, this summer is looking sweet, as she pursues her dreams as a business owner. Grace is the 16 year old entrepreneur behind Yum Yum Cakes – a company that offers custom cakes and cupcakes for occasions both fun and formal. Grace uses only the finest and freshest ingredients in her culinary creations – with from scratch, flavour-tested recipes – offered in a full palette of colours and flavours.
Yum Yum Cakes began with a hobby, after Grace enrolled in cake decorating classes. Grace combined her techniques and recipes with her creativity and hard work ethic into a company where she focuses on providing custom cakes for a variety of events, particularly for weddings.
Through the Summer Company program and PED’s Business Advisory Centre, Grace has found the support and encouragement to move her business forward. “They have displayed a path full of learning opportunities related to business and finance,” says Grace of her experience with the program so far. “Through workshops and seminars, I have been able to ask specific questions and receive advice on how to approach various business tasks in a professional way.”
Looking forward, Grace sees herself continuing on this path of entrepreneurship as a baker and cake decorator. Over the summer, she is excited to provided Peterborough’s newlywed couples with scrumptious and memorable desserts for this big day. In the future, she will look to include cake pops and French macaron to her menu – inspired by her time working as an apprentice under Dominique Cordel in Bar le Duc, France this past spring.
