Connecting Young Entrepreneurs with over $150,000 in Funding

Peterborough & the Kawarthas is home to many bright young minds. With three world-class educational institutions, the region is sought out by young people across the country as a place to study. Trent University continues to hold a top spot in Maclean’s magazine’s list of undergraduate universities. Seneca College’s School of Aviation recently opened its doors in Peterborough. Fleming College’s Kawartha Trades & Technology Centre, is a state-of-the-art training facility where tradespeople are gaining real-world experience and experiential learning opportunities.

It is important that recent grads and youth are connected with opportunities that allow them to stay and to prosper in this community. With a growing trend in young professionals creating their own path through entrepreneurship, Peterborough Economic Development’s Business Advisory Centre is proud to support youth on their journeys as new business owners.

With the support of the Government of Ontario, PED’s Business Advisory Centre connected young entrepreneurs with over $150,000 in funding through Summer Company and Starter Company.

2016 was our 15th year delivering the Summer Company program, the Government of Ontario’s flagship youth entrepreneurship program. This program allows youth ages 15-29 who are still in school to test the waters of entrepreneurship with support, training, and funding up to $3000.

The Starter Company program was created to support youth ages 18-29 as they start and grow businesses. This program connected youth with training, resources, mentorship and funding up to $5000 to start and grow their businesses. In 2017, the Starter Company program was expanded to include all entrepreneurs over 18 in order to support a wider range of entrepreneurs as they set out to succeed as business owners.
