Random Acts of Green: A Summer Company Story

After receiving her Master’s Degree in Sustainability Studies, Jessica Correa turned her research into a business idea. Her research, which focused on how to effectively utilize marketing and advertising strategies to influence individuals to take part in sustainable behaviour, led to the creation of Random Acts of Green (RAOG) a social business that helps capture and promote local sustainable behaviour and events. Jessica describes RAOG as “an online community network hub that creates, captures, and shares environmental content designed to educate and entertain social media followers about how to combat climate change.”

Jessica, who considers herself an “enviropreneur,” credits Peterborough Economic Development with providing resources to help grow her business, especially in terms of social media. Additionally, the Summer Company funding allowed Jessica to really jumpstart her business endeavour. Jessica believes Peterborough & the Kawarthas is the perfect place to start RAOG because the “community is interested in the environmental movement and [it is] a great place to start promoting sustainable behaviours.” Currently, RAOG focuses on sustainability acts in Peterborough, Jessica envisions the future of RAOG involves spreading the organization across Ontario, and Canada.

Jessica defines success as “stepping out of your comfort zone every day and smiling through both peaks and valleys.”
