Literary Experience Development on the Books for Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism

By Kelly Jessup

Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism, through the area’s Regional Tourism Organization partnership fund, will be embarking on a new, niche tourism experience development initiative related to literary tourism over the coming months as part of ongoing efforts to increase visitation to and spending in the Peterborough Region.

A recent study prepared for the Ontario Arts Council provides a comprehensive overview of the importance of the “Cultural Tourist” to health of the economy. In a community with such strong cultural and historical offerings, a focus on marketing to, and providing products for this demographic are indisputable.

This new development project will result in a comprehensive inventory of literary-related offerings in the region ranging from festivals and events to historical sites and book stores.

Rich historical references such as this recent blog from Literary expert Nigel Beale, are among the long list of content pieces that will become the basis for a well-developed, thought-provoking, culturally rich literary experience that Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism will add to it’s roster of unique products and experiences offered to visitors.

While the region is well known for it’s outdoor offerings and being a premiere vacation destination during the summer months, experiences such as this provide increased opportunity to build upon the shoulder seasons, making Peterborough & the Kawarthas a highly sought after destination year round.
