“Eat your vegetables.” Something you likely heard around the dinner table growing up, to encourage a healthy lifestyle. With Adam Forth’s year-round business, Kawartha Original Greens, it’s about more than just a healthy lifestyle, it’s about sustainable living.
Kawartha Original Greens grows leafy greens and microgreens in a controlled environment. Inspired to make a difference in the ways agriculture can disregard the needs of the environment and the cost of importing fruits and vegetables, Adam has made his business sustainable and environmentally aware, with plans to leave the world a better place for his daughter and future generations.
“The B.L.A.S.T. Program helped me bring my business idea into focus,” notes Adam of his experience with the PED’s pilot program. With the microgrant awarded to him he plans to purchase supplies and equipment to make Kawartha Original Greens a reality. To him, the forward-thinking and open-minded nature of Peterborough makes it a great place for his business to take root.
Once Kawartha Original Greens grows beyond its startup space, Adam sees himself looking to form partnerships in the community, allowing him to move to a larger production facility.
We asked Adam what his personal definition of success is, he answered: “Fostering the growth of a community that is sustainable for all those willing to take responsibility for it. [And] leaving the world a better for my daughter and all future generations.”
